ESOLVE and Repsol reinforce occupational safety with a conference on risk prevention in field work

Occupational safety is an essential requirement in any environmental project. In activities such as soil characterisation, drilling work, groundwater sampling or actions in industrial facilities, preventive planning and correct risk management are essential to protect people and ensure the correct execution of the work.

With this commitment, ESOLVE has held a new online safety conference together with Repsol, aimed at the teams that carry out environmental actions in their facilities. The objective has been to reinforce the preventive culture, update knowledge and share the best safety practices applicable to field work.

A preventive culture based on continuous improvement

The session began by recalling a principle that is part of ESOLVE’s DNA: people’s safety and health are a priority in all phases of a project.

This commitment is supported by ISO 45001 certification, the international reference standard for occupational health and safety management systems, which promotes continuous improvement, the prevention of occupational risks and the development of safer work environments.

The Rules That Save Lives

One of the main contents of the day was the presentation of the new Life-Saving Rules implemented by Repsol, aligned with the Life Saving Rules of the International Association of Oil & Gas Producers (IOGP).

These rules are born from the analysis of thousands of serious and fatal accidents that have occurred in the energy industry and establish simple, clear and easily identifiable behaviors to prevent the risks with the greatest potential to cause serious or fatal injuries.

During the session, it was explained how these rules are applied in common activities such as work at height, confined spaces, lifting operations, driving, work permits, hot work, energy isolation, fire line or safety systems.

Safety applied to environmental drilling work

The conference also allowed for a review of the safety procedures that ESOLVE applies in the drilling and drilling supervision work carried out for Repsol.

Key aspects were addressed, such as the prior preparation of preventive measures plans, coordination with those responsible for safety, document validation before the start of the work, the safety meeting prior to each action and the identification of the specific risks present at each site.

In addition, the main preventive measures during the fieldwork were reviewed, including:

• safe planning of journeys and driving;
• locating buried utilities before drilling;
• control of work with machinery;
• correct use of personal protective equipment;
• prevention against high temperatures;
• risk management arising from adverse weather conditions;
• specific measures for sampling, hydraulic tests and work with subsoil gases.
• Training to continue improving.

This type of conference is part of the shared commitment between ESOLVE and Repsol to consolidate a preventive culture in which safety does not depend only on procedures, but also on the training, planning and involvement of all the people involved in each project.
